I made my very first pie today! I was hoping to have a post earlier in the day, but since I didn’t make anything yesterday, I decided to wait until, well, now, to post my pie-making adventure!
I’ve always wanted to make pie, but in the past, my idea of making a pie was doing the filling from scratch and using one of those pre-made pie crusts you find in the baking aisle.
I made apple pie, and I was utterly terrified of making pie. I wasn’t too worried about the apple pie filling, but the crust was terrifiying. I don’t want to be the one who messes up Thanksgiving by making a weird, funny-looking pie.
First up, we have the not-so-terrifying pie crust.
All in all, a very simple list of ingredients. And easy to make too! Parts of it hung over the pan, and other parts just barely reached the top of the pan. Oops! But the fact that there were 2 pie crusts- one for the pan and the other to go on top on the pie filling- helped even things out a little.
I even sprinkled some bread crumbs on the bottom, because the person who wrote the blog entry does it, and it seemed like a good idea. There was a bit of the syrup-y juice at the bottom of the bowl that I mixed things it, and it kinda made me glad I didn’t add the boiled cider.
So, next is the ingredients for the filling!
The filling wasn’t hard either. I just had to peel, core and slice the apples. Although with my history of sharp objects, slicing stuff isn’t such a good idea and can be very dangerous! But rest assured, I did not get hurt!
The whole peeling and slicing apples took me a while, so I did that while the pie crust was hanging out in the fridge. When I was done with the apples, I mixed up all the ingredients, rolled out the pie crust and put everything in the pie pan. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that, but what I do have a picture of is the pie, with the crust, filling, and another pie crust on top!
See, my pie! I am still so excited about it! I still need to bake it, but for now, it’ll hang out in the freezer. Tomorrow night, it comes out of the freezer, and I’ll bake it on Thursday morning when I make the mashed potatoes.
I’m still debating whether I should just make some extra rolls but since we might not need that many, I guess I can just get the ones that look sort of okay.
I’ll definitely be back tomorrow, with a post sometime in the afternoon, so have a great day!
