Baking Essentials

I’m more of a baker than a cook, so my kitchen is definitely more set up for baking than it is for cooking.  Here’s what I always have on hand:

  • All-Purpose Flour (Usually King Arthur)
  • Baker’s Sugar
  • Light (or Golden) Brown Sugar and Dark Brown Sugar
  • Confectioner’s (or Powdered or Icing) Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Food Coloring
  • Baking Soda
  • Baking Powder
  • Unsalted butter
  • Salt
  • Different Spices (Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, Allspice, and Ginger are the ones I use the most)
  • Molasses
  • Ground Chocolate (currently dutch-process cocoa but I have used unsweetened ground cocoa.  I try to keep both on hand, since I’ve seen recipes that call for one or the other)

Here are some non-food essentials:

  • Parchment Paper
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Cookies Sheets and various other baking dishes (a couple pie tins and various cake pans and loaf pans)
  • My mixer: currently a handheld electric mixer, but I’m hoping to get a stand mixer someday.  🙂
  • Cooke Cutters
  • Icing Bags and Tips

And also some random ingredients I have but don’t use (or haven’t had a chance to use)

  • The Following Extracts: Almond, Peppermint, Orange and Lemon
  • Baker’s Chocolate
  • Coconut
  • Peanut Butter Chips
  • Cornstarch

And some ingredients I should have but don’t:

  • different kinds of nuts
  • Chocolate Chips
